INTRO:
Jeffrey Preston Bezos is an American entrepreneur, media proprietor, investor, computer engineer, and commercial astronaut. He is the founder, executive chairman and former president and CEO of Amazon.
Early life: The son of Jacklyn (née Gise) and Theodore Jorgensen, Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen was born on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
His mother was a 17-year-old high school student at the time of Jeff's birth, and his father was a 19-year-old.
Jorgensen was born to a Baptist household in Chicago and claimed Danish ancestry. Jacklyn enrolled in night classes while Jeff was still a newborn after graduating from high school in spite of obstacles. When he was two years old, Jeff went to an Albuquerque, New Mexico, Montessori school. His mother wed Miguel "Mike" Bezos, a Cuban immigrant, in April 1968 following his parents' divorce. Mike adopted Jeff, a 4 years baby shortly after the wedding, and Jeff's last name was formally changed from Jorgensen to Bezos. The family relocated to Houston, Texas, so that Mike could start working as an engineer for Exxon after receiving his degree from the University of New Mexico.
From fourth to sixth grade, Jeff studied at Houston's River Oaks Elementary School. Lawrence Preston Gise, an Albuquerque-based regional director for the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), was Jeff's maternal grandpa.
In his youth, Jeff would spend many summers at the family ranch in Cotulla, Texas, where Lawrence retired early. This ranch was then acquired by Jeff, who increased its size from 25,000 acres to 300,000 acres.
Jeff demonstrated knowledge of technology and an interest in science. He worked at McDonald's as a short-order line cook during the breakfast shift when he was a high school student.
Wealthiest person:
One of the wealthiest people on the planet, Jeff Bezos, accumulated his fortune in different ways than most people would. To that end, it’s helpful to learn about how he became rich and how you can apply his strategies to your own life.
According to Jeff Bezos only money is not everything. People usually think of wealth as something that only money can bring. While that is true to a certain extent, it’s also possible to become wealthy without cash in your pockets.

JEFF BEZOS ( Jeffrey Preston Bezos) |
By the time Bezos graduated from Princeton University with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science, he had started multiple companies and sold one of them for a million dollars. While this may sound like an extremely risky way to start off, it’s important not to judge people too harshly based on their choices. In fact, this is a common way for successful people to launch their careers. It helps them gain experience and build up their net worth at the same time.
Another example would be Mark Zuckerberg using Internet Explorer back in college to develop Facebook before switching over to Google’s Chrome browser once he was more experienced.
Hardships in his life:
While Bezos did start multiple companies at first, he eventually sold one of them for a million dollars when he was just twenty-three years old.
After selling his first business, Bezos worked at Fidelity Investments for almost two years before deciding it wasn’t for him. He then moved on to Amazon as a customer service representative where he worked hard but also played hard as well.
This included playing cards with his coworkers during his lunch break and betting over $20 that one of them couldn’t eat eight jalapeño poppers in under two minutes. When he won the bet by eating nine poppers— all of which were spicy— they gave him another $20 so he could play another game with them the following week.
Got motivation:
During this time, Bezos also read Allan’s book “Who Moved My Cheese?” which helped him understand customer behavior better and prioritize new products accordingly. After winning Amazon’s internal book club award three years in a row— which included picking up new books every month— Bezos was promoted to buyer for certain products such as dog food and women's underwear alike.
He loved buying these items because it allowed him to go directly from work to his home where his daughter lived every day until she went back to school for the summer months later that year. In addition, this allowed him enough money each month so that he didn't have any trouble making ends meet while working full-time at another job at the same time.
However, once he had enough money saved up from both jobs combined —$83,300 —he quit Amazon so that he could launch what would eventually become Amazon. With just $83,300 under his belt — less than half of what many people make annually — Bezos knew that launching an online bookstore wasn't going to be easy or quick either way.
Result of Hardworking:
Through combining his love of reading with business sense learned through various jobs and experiences along the way, Jeff Bezos launched one of the world's most successful businesses ever created— Amazon. Founded in 1994 with just $1,000 borrowed from his wife's friend, Bezos now has a net worth of about $150 billion.
With such wealth acquired through different means than most people typically use, it's important not pull aside prejudices when judging other wealthy individuals such as Bezos. Rather than focusing on how they acquired their fortunes, look at what they did with their money once they had enough cash on hand. In addition, use similar techniques yourself so you can achieve your own dreams.!
